Antique Folk Art Church Scene After Dagnan Bouveret by F.M. Kingsley, Signed (1893, Oil on Canvas)

$1,500.00

Antique Folk Art Church Scene After Dagnan-Bouveret by F.M. Kingsley (1893, Oil on Canvas). This painting is a folk art interpretation of ‘The Blessed Bread at Corre’, a celebrated 1886 work by the French academic painter Pascal Adolphe Jean Dagnan-Bouveret. Rendered in a naive style, it reflects the perspective of an amateur or self-taught artist reimagining a well-known masterpiece. One of my favorite types of painting. Unfortunately it has become increasingly rare to find these in the ‘wild’.

The work is attributed to Florence Morse Kingsley, an American author active in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, best known for her popular religious fiction. While Kingsley is primary known for her writing, this painting suggests a possible foray into the visual arts, adding an additional layer of historical context.

The piece exhibits signs of age and use, including surface wear and multiple repaired tears, which are visible on the reverse of the canvas. In used condition. Please refer to photos for details.
