Antique Hand Carved African Stool From the Nyamwezi People (Tanzania)

$650.00
sold out

Antique Hand Carved Stool From the Nyamwezi People (Tanzania). Hand carved striated detailing on the top with an attached string on the front (most likely so the stool could be carried). Hand carved from a single piece of wood. The piece rocks back and forth which makes me think it was also used as a chair/backrest on the ground. In fair condition with patina and wear. Please refer to pictures for details.

Size: 24.5”L x 6.5”H

Provenance: Estate of Professor Philip Gould, NYC. Professor of Chinese Art History at Columbia University and Sarah Lawrence College, Professor Philip Gould was a passionate collector of African Art, and curated numerous museum and gallery exhibitions from his personal collection.
