Oil on porcelain under glass, housed in hand-carved gilt wood frame

Painting: 4.25 × 3.5 in (10.8 × 8.9 cm)

Framed: 9.75 × 7.5 in (24.8 × 19 cm)

Antique miniature oil portrait of Saint Fabiola on oval porcelain. Signed in the lower right quadrant. Housed under glass in an antique scrolled gilt wood frame. The matte itself is a red velvet. The back of the porcelain has the Lascialfari label. In good condition with wear consistent with age. The frame has scuffs, scratches and chips. The painting itself is clean some slight blemish and paint wear to the upper left edge.

About the Artist:

Guido Lascialfari was a specialist in sacred miniatures, working primarily in the first half of the 20th century. His works were particularly sought after by Catholic congregations and private collectors for their technical precision and spiritual resonance. Examples of his porcelain paintings can be found in the Museo Diocesano di Milano and several private ecclesiastical collections throughout Italy.

About Saint Fabiola:

A 4th-century Roman matron and disciple of Saint Jerome, Fabiola devoted her life to charitable works after her conversion, establishing the first public hospital in Western Europe. Venerated as the patron saint of difficult marriages and abused women, her iconography typically depicts her in a red veil, referencing her noble status and martyrdom. Her cult experienced a revival in 19th-century art following Cardinal Wiseman's popular novel Fabiola (1854).

Condition:

- Painting: Good condition, with stable pigment and intact porcelain

- Frame: Shows expected wear to gilding commensurate with age

- Glass protective cover present with minor surface scratches
