Finn Lynnggaard - Postmodernist Glass Figurative Sculpture, Signed. Postmodernist glass sculpture of descending by archways leading to a glass figure obscured by a glass plate. Sits on top of a marble platform. Signed and dated on the bottom. Heavy piece.

Finn Lynggaard (1930–2011) – Danish artist and pioneer of studio glass, celebrated for his transformative role in elevating glass as a fine art medium. Initially trained in painting and ceramics at Copenhagen’s Royal College of Art (graduating in 1955), Lynggaard’s career pivoted in 1970 after a revelatory encounter with hot glass during a ceramics lecture in Toronto. This sparked a lifelong passion, leading him to become a central figure in Europe’s studio glass movement. His work, characterized by vibrant colors and organic forms, often merged glass with materials like marble and wood, as seen in his architectural-inspired series Antigua Verja .

In 1986, Lynggaard co-founded Glasmuseet Ebeltoft in Denmark, a groundbreaking institution dedicated to contemporary glass art, which he nurtured into an international hub. His legacy includes exhibitions at prestigious venues like the Victoria & Albert Museum and the Corning Museum of Glass, alongside mentorship of emerging artists through The Finn Lynggaard Foundation .
