In Pink Stairs, Ginny Casey's command of color and perspective is at the forefront of the dappled composition, as saturated magenta, placid lavender, and glowing charcoal reverberate with muted vibrancy. "Bulging pots rest on tabletops, suggestively prodded and pinched by disembodied hands in gangrenous tones of blue, green, and purple," is how The New Yorkerdescribed Casey's carefully rendered still lifes. Her subjects are deconstructed humanoid features set amongst floating suggestions of architectural structures + domestic objects including tables, chairs, knives, hammers, and shadowed recesses. Evoking the haunting isolation of de Chirico, Morandi's approach to form and composition, and Avery's sense of color, Casey's paintings succeed in transporting the viewer into her otherworldly vision.
