Aaron Johnson (b. 1975) - Birth of the Earth, Signed (Screenprint, 2020)

$1,300.00

Aaron Johnson (b. 1975)

Birth of the Earth, 2020

9 layer screen print on paper

Edition of 20, signed and numbered in verso

Diameter: 23 inches

Condition: Very good, preserved in original glassine wrapping

American contemporary artist Aaron Johnson is known for his psychologically intense, surreal paintings that examine themes of transformation, the grotesque, and shifting identity. Working primarily with acrylics, Johnson developed a signature "reverse painting" technique, applying layers of pigment to the back of transparent surfaces to achieve glowing, dreamlike images. His work features fluid, dissolving figures and organic, visceral forms that balance dark humor with disturbing beauty.

Exhibitions and Collections:

Johnson's work has been shown internationally at notable venues including Venus Over Manhattan in New York, Anton Kern Gallery in New York, Joshua Liner Gallery in New York, Eric Firestone Gallery in New York and East Hampton, Galerie Isa in Mumbai, and Kunstverein Ludwigsburg in Germany. His paintings are included in the permanent collections of the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York and the Saatchi Gallery in London.

Representation:

Johnson is represented by Eric Firestone Gallery in New York and East Hampton, and Galerie Isa in Mumbai.

Based in Brooklyn, Johnson continues to expand the possibilities of figurative abstraction, blending pop culture references, art historical influences, and subconscious imagery into his distinctive, visionary works. His paintings have been featured in major publications such as Artforum, The New York Times, and Juxtapoz, establishing his significant contribution to contemporary surrealist painting.
